News: We are happy to announce that we have our new "link mod" working—our programmer out-did himself on making it!! The program allows YOU to add your link yourself, unlike the old "add-me form" we had. Please, go here and add your unit's link, if we don't have it. For that matter, you can update links too. We still have many of the old links up, as it is a process to do a lot of them. However, we will be working to update links as fast as possible-- soon, ALL the unit links and historical links will be done this way!!
Celtic Reenacting (and a little other ancient Europe until there's enough for its own page)
During the Iron Age, Celts lived across a wide range of lands, from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) to Anatolia (Turkey), but the ultimate origin of the Celts is a subject of controversy.
Polybius published a history of Rome about 150 BC in which he describes the Gauls of Italy and their conflict with Rome. Pausanias in the second century BC says that the Gauls "originally called Celts live on the remotest region of Europe on the coast of an enormous tidal sea". Posidonius described the southern Gauls about 100 BC. Though his original work is lost it was used by later writers such as Strabo. The latter, writing in the early first century AD, deals with Britain and Gaul as well as Hispania, Italy and Galatia. Caesar wrote extensively about his Gallic Wars in 58-51 BC. Diodorus Siculus wrote about the Celts of Gaul and Britain in his first century History.
"Their aspect is terrifying...They are very tall in stature, with ripling muscles under clear white skin. Their hair is blond, but not naturally so: they bleach it, to this day, artificially, washing it in lime and combing it back from their foreheaads. They look like wood-demons, their hair thick and shaggy like a horse's mane. Some of them are cleanshaven, but others - especially those of high rank, shave their cheeks but leave a moustache that covers the whole mouth and, when they eat and drink, acts like a sieve, trapping particles of food...The way they dress is astonishing: they wear brightly coloured and embroidered shirts, with trousers called bracae and cloaks fastened at the shoulder with a brooch, heavy in winter, light in summer. These cloaks are striped or checkered in design, with the seperate checks close together and in various colours.
[The Celts] wear bronze helmets with figures picked out on them, even horns, which made them look even taller than they already are...while others cover themselves with breast-armour made out of chains. But most content themselves with the weapons nature gave them: they go naked into battle...Weird, discordant horns were sounded, [they shouted in chorus with their] deep and harsh voices, they beat their swords rythmically against their shields."-- Diodorus

We also demonstrate the combat methords and tacics of the legions and Native Britons in full contact displays. The group also can stage Gladitorial shows with Noxi and Classically paired Fighters, again these shows are done as competative full contact matches.

LEGIO XXII PRIMIGENIA, a living history organization dedicated to reliving the life of the 1st Century Roman Soldier. Our group is made up of people from all walks of life with the singular enthusiasm of studying and experiencing life in Ancient Rome during the time of the Emperor Nero and those Caesars who followed him. Currently the unit is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, we have members as far away as Chicago.
We are all students of history, but take it much further, developing clothing, armor and weapons from the period and meeting together to experience the life of the common soldier in as full a way as possible. We enjoy interacting with the public, putting on displays of authentic Roman camps, period foods, drilling as a unit, demonstrations of combat tactics, actual combat with adversaries like the Celts or Germans, gladiatorial contests and more. We offer the member the ability to relive 2000 years ago.
We welcome both men and women. There are many different impressions that both sexes can create for themselves. Being reenactment group we do mandate a strict authenticity, asking each member to create the best impression possible, using correct materials and patterns. The legion has access to inexpensive materials and older members will be pleased to help new members get things put together. Several of the impressions that the unit does is Legionary, Auxiliary, Celtic, Germanic, Civilian, and Gladiator.
Legio II Adiutrix PF (USA, )--in 2005. This legion appeals to me in part because of my own service as a US Marine, and the honorifics are similar...'Pia Fidelis' and 'Semper Fidelis'. We have decided to go with the concept of white tunics for legionaries and officers, and red ones for centurions. We have also decided to use the idea put forth by Fuentes that legions formed of naval units may have used blue scarves to honor their origins. We use ultramarine focale and sashes for this purpose. Our scuta is blue with a vertical gold trident and a pair of dolphins twined about it above and below the boss. Vexilla are red with "Leg II APF" on them, sometimes with a pegasus.
We celebrate the Deis Natalis at Yuletide in December...this being the likely time in which the legio classiariorum was raised to iustae legionis status. This would give them the Capricorn as a founding symbol. In addition, the Pegasus is displayed, this emblem being given to them by Emperor Vespasian, perhaps at the time he awarded them the honorifics of 'Pia Fidelis'
Legio II Augusta (USA, AR)--Legio II Augusta is. a member unit of the The Imperial Southern Provisional Army -- The ISPA is a loose organization of Roman Reenactors, Legions, Gladiators, Citizens, Auxila, and Enemies of Rome in the Southeastern United States. Lafe AD43
The Lafe event is a Roman "tactical" and 24 hour Living History "immersion" event that Leg. II puts on each year. It is fast becoming the Roman event in North America and each year draws more reenactors from each side. We are building a Roman fort on the site, along with a barracks building and even a Cletic village.
Legio II Augusta--Roma Vita (USA, WA)--Roman and other ancient culture re-enactment
Legio II Traiana (USA, NV)--LEGIO II TRAIANA FORTIS, the strong Legion of Trajan, is currently stationed in Las Vegas Nevada, land of glass and steel Monoliths and Pyramids. We portray 2nd century Roman Army drill and camp life during both the Dacian and Parthian War periods, we also recreate 2nd century Civilian life, both Urban and Camp. We hope to have everything from Senators to Gladiators. We also welcome Celts, Greeks and others of the Time to Participate.
We are not a professional Roman reenacting unit, we're just a group of people who enjoy the hobby and would like to educate the public to what Romans really looked like instead of what they see in the movies.
Century I, Cohors II, Legio III "Cyrenaica", Caesar's Conquerors, and the affiliated Auxilia, are Ancient Historical, Living History Impressionist Organizations representing the famous Legio III that was formed approximately 31BC and its accompanied Auxilia. Time periods represented cover the period from 31BC through 550AD. Our main emphasis is on the Flavian Period from approximately 66AD through 100AD.
This organization is designed for the enjoyment of it's membership as well as performing Historical Displays, Parades, Events and other gatherings, in order to represent Military and Civilian personas of the Ancient Roman Military and Civilian life, in an educational setting for ourselves, and others, in Historical Reenactments and Living History encampments and functions.

We strive to inform, educate, and entertain both ourselves and the public, and to have lots of fun along the way! Toward these goals, we take part in film and television productions, military timelines, historical faires and other special events, as well as give educational presentations throughout Southern California. To help stay fit, we conduct marches in full kit once each month. We also take part in "experimental archaeology" to help historians investigate how the Romans may have done things. Finally, we enjoy the special camaraderie of a shared fascination with this important historical epoch.

We have no fancy titles or haughty officers. We are encamped in the northern part of Provincia Britannia, north of what will become the Hadrian's Wall public works project.
The best way to describe what we do is engendered in the phrase "experiential archaeology".

Legio XIV Gemina Martia Victrix (USA, WI)--We are a living history/reenactment group located in the Milwaukee area.
Our members are from many walks of life and different historical backgrounds.
Legio XIIII Gemina Martia Victrix (USA, WV)--We are a group of like-minded amateur historians who have a sincere interest in ancient Rome , and all the aspects involved with the Roman military machine during the first century A.D. We strive to portray the common legionnaire who marched on Rome ’s highways from the blistering deserts of the Middle East to the northern reaches of Hadrian’s Wall .
Our primary goal is to depict members of Legio XIIII, known for its campaigns in Germania and in Britannia. Legio XIIII was one of the legions that participated in the suppression of the revolt led in Britannia (60AD) by the famed Iceni Queen Boudicca. Along with our representation of the Roman soldier, Legio XIIII also has portrayals for female members. The impressions are open for Roman civilians and non-citizens. As with any army in history there has always been civilians following the army. So our group is open to any female impression that would be accurate for our groups time period and locale.

Legio XX (USA, MD)--Matt Amt's unit--this is THEking-daddy of Roman Reenacting websites as Matt has posted his unit Handbook so all can learn! Not high-tech, so it loads quick!!
The Twentieth Legion was founded in 1991 to recreate the soldiers of the Roman Army for public demonstrations and living history displays. Our weapons, armor, and accoutrements are all carefully researched, and reconstructed at our own expense. Our troops demonstrate the tactics of the day, and the use of the legionary's various weapons. We can discuss many aspects of Roman army life, and will sometimes spend a day or weekend living like our ancient counterparts did on campaign. We also have a civilian contingent which displays daily life in the ancient Roman world.
Legio XX Valeria Victrix Ballistaria (USA, MN)--Neat site, takes FOREVER to load as he has about a million bytes worth of pix on the main page... neat stuff, but found no info on who they are. Give it a look--especially if you like siege machines and such!
Legio XXII Primigenia, Cohort IV (USA, OH)--Legio XXII was founded in 1992 to recreate the soldiers of the Roman Army for public demonstrations, living history displays and historical events, such as period Trekking.
Our weapons, armor, and equipment are all carefully researched, and reconstructed at our own expense. We demonstrate the tactics of the day, and the use of the legionary's various weapons. We are available to discuss many aspects of Roman army life, and will sometimes spend a day or weekend living like our ancient counterparts did on campaign. Eventually, we also aim to actually reenact against the enemies of Rome... a period fortification is even in the planning stages.
The recreated Legio XXII portrays soldiers from Germany in the mid-first century AD. We have based our clothing and equipment on contemporary illustrations and descriptions as well as on archeological evidence. While the group is based in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, we have members from a broader area.

Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix pia fidelis (Canada, Ontario)--Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix is a Roman reenactment group with members in Southern Ontario and Indiana.
It was established in 2004 with the goal of portraying all aspects of Roman civilian and legionary life.Family participation is encouraged.
Legio XXX Cohort I (Canada, Ontario) -- Legio XXX Cohort I, is a roman reenactment group based in the Niagara Falls area of Ontario, Canada. Established in the summer of 2001, our goal is to recreate the early 2nd Century Roman legion, immediately after the conclusion of the 2nd Dacian War.Within this site you will find information on our unit standards and regulations, and a list of links to other Roman sites. Also included is a photo gallery, a brief history of the original Legio XXX and a small description of the basic kit of a Roman legionary. This will provide some idea of what we are about, and a means to build your own equipment and reenact as a Roman soldier of various types.
Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix, Cohors Tertia (USA, IN) -- the midwest vexillation, of the 30th legion, 3rd cohort. Besides this one, the present day 30th legion also has vexillations in Ontario, Canada, cohors I and II (Cur cohortes duae cum legione tricesima in Ontarione sunt? Politica), and in Belgium, cohors IV. We reenact the roman legions during the reign of emperor Trajan. Our goal is to authentically portray the roman legionaire of the late 1st century doing most of what he would of done. This includes marching, drilling, training, and camping as a roman legionaire would of done. Staged battles are also sometimes performed, but since the elements of our kit are real, there are limits to how far this can go. Since safe unchoregraphed authentic combat using real weapons is impossible, one thing that we are not about is sport combat
COHORS II ITALICA CIVIUM ROMANORUM (USA, SouthEast)--The Auxiliary unit of Legio VI FFC based in the Southeastern United States, Cohors II Italica Civium Romanorum (of Roman Citizens). The unit exists primarily to participate in re-enactments, presentations, dramas, and related events. Men Women, and children are welcome, each can be involved in a myriad of ways.
Cohors II Ital is based primarily on the Cohort stationed in Caesarea in the 20-70 AD Period. It is mentioned several times in historical references, including the Bible!
COHORS TRES ITALICA C.R. (USA, OK)--Cohort Three of Italian Auxiliaries is a Roman Reenactment Group from the South Central part of the United States. We have members and associates in Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
We attempt to recreate the less well known half of the Roman Army. Everyone knows about the Legions, but standing beside or often in front of the Roman Legions of the Early Empire were the Auxiliary Cohorts. These units were recruited from non-citizens and part of their service bonus was the acquiring of citizenship for themselves and their offspring.
Sometimes auxiliary cohorts were given their citizenship early as a result of a heroic action. Auxiliaries provided cavalry, scouts, missile weapon specialists, and often the assault troops for the Roman army. They usually had different weapons and armor from the regular Roman Legionary. In some places the Roman auxiliary troops manned the first lines of defense. In Britain, auxiliaries guarded the frontier posts of Hadrian’s Wall. In Judea at the time of Jesus Christ, no Roman legions were officially stationed there, only auxiliary troops. It was probably an auxiliary soldier who thrust his spear (hasta) into Jesus’ side, not a legionary with a pilum!

Nova Roma (USA)--NOVA ROMA is an organization dedicated to the study and restoration of ancient Roman culture. From its legendary founding in 753 BCE to 330 CE, when it ceased to be the center of Imperial authority, Rome set the standard and laid the foundation for our modern Western civilization. Rome civilized the world, and we see the need for that divine mission to begin again.
Founded 2,750 years after the Eternal City itself, NOVA ROMA seeks to bring back those golden years. But where our ancestors imposed their will through the sword and the Legions, we intend the same result through the spread of knowledge and through our own virtuous example.

SPQR (USA, AZ)--SPQR Roman Reenacting was created in 2000. My name is Taylor Genovese, my reenacting name is Titus Decimus Romulus. SPQR was made so that men, women, and children could reenact Roman times. But SPQR is unique because people can PICK what they want to be. From senators to gladiators to the army. We try to be authentic, but we understand how hard it is to afford equipment, especially miltary equipment. But, if you would like to be in the army, you can't wear anything that is not Roman. The same rule applies with any other career. SPQR is based in Tucson, AZ and we desperatly need members. If you are in another state and would like to create an SPQR in your community, contact me and I will give you information.
