Civil War Research Sites and Links

Welcome to reenactor.Net's Civil War Research Sites and Links section.

Alas... this page is still a bit weak, but we're working on it! We plan to try and do a thorough rework one of these days, but this is a long slow process, so please have patience. We have checked most of these links and fixed them (well, there might be a bad one or two, but...). We have a LOT more to add! Also, we need some text with each link, so if this is your site, or you can write it for us, please, let us have a paragraph on each link ;-) Send us the text (and which link it's for to tleve06@yahoo.com

If you have a site we should be listing here, or know of a good Civil War website that we don't list, please fell free to let us know. Better yet, click the link below to use the add-link form! And Please feel free to report all broken links to us.

If you know a great Civil War site that isn't listed, or have the new link of a broken one below, please let us know by filling out the form here. Thanks!!!

The 23rd Pennsylvania Memorial Website is dedicated to the History of the 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry known as "Birney's Zouaves". If you have any ideas or information that will make this site better or more accurate, please contact us. Learn about the original Birney's Zouaves, their leader, their campaigns and engagements, the uniform they wore, and the flag they carried. All this supported with original photos, the entire roster, pension records, and a virtual cemetery.
Dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the 14th KY Infantry Regiment who fought so valiantly for the preservation of the Union!

The 14th KY Heritage Society would like to invite all descendants of 14th KY veterans to join our society. Our goal is to honor the memory of our ancestors and remember the sacrifices they made while fighting so valiantly to protect family, home and country.

We encourage research on the regiment to further a more in depth knowledge about the men and their believes , enabling us to pass this information on to our families as well as to educate the general public. The exchange of information between members is strongly encouraged.

Another focus will be to locate as many of the 14th KY veterans’ graves and assure their upkeep, as well as placing markers wherever needed.
Visit our website for the Seventeenth Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry.  You will find the only published histories of the regiment, including one written by Colonel William Noble and published in 1881. You will also be able to check the roster of the regiment by company. For the beginning researcher, there are some starting places to check on. As they are obtained, images will continue to be added. Finally, soldiers letters will be posted as they can be found and contributed, bringing a personal side to their story.
The American Civil War Homepage gathers together in one place hypertext links to the most useful identified electronic files about the American Civil War (1861-1865). The page opens a gateway to the Internet's multi-formatted resources about what is arguably the seminal event in American history. Not only was the War the occasion for the abolition of slavery, but by conflict's end the re-United States had emerged as a modern, industrialized power.
It is this sense of history, transcending the stale recitation of dates and facts and alive with meaning, to which Lincoln referred when he wrote in 1862, "Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history."
The links gathered in this Homepage are a metaphor for the interconnections of the War's past with our present and future. Thus, technology reveals the deep-structure of the human experience and helps to explain the continuing American fascination with the struggle between North and South, free and slave.
Our Mission: The Civil War Trust is America's largest non-profit organization (501-C3) devoted to the preservation of our nation's endangered Civil War battlefields. The Trust also promotes educational programs and heritage tourism initiatives to inform the public of the war's history and the fundamental conflicts that sparked it.
Jim Janke's Emporium offers great information and links on many topics.  This one is about the Civil War.
