reenactor.Net, THE Online, Worldwide Home of Living History Forums
News: We are happy to announce that we have our new "link mod" working—our programmer out-did himself on making it!! The program allows YOU to add your link yourself, unlike the old "add-me form" we had. Please, go to http://www.reenactor.net/forums/index.php/page,167.html and add your unit's link, if we don't have it. For that matter, you can update links too. We still have many of the old links up, as it is a process to do a lot of them. However, we will be working to update links as fast as possible-- soon, ALL the unit links and historical links will be done this way!!

    X-posted

    Hi all,

Just wanted to get the word out that some of my friends and I are putting together a WWII German army Cossack impression.

Specifically, we are the 2nd Troop of the 5th Don Cossack Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cossack Division. This was a "Plastun," or infantry reconnaissance unit and as such we are basically Cossack infantry. The unit served on anti-partisan operations in the Balkans and was transferred in the fall of 1944 to Austria to fight the approaching Red Army.

Because of the hodge-podge nature of the Cossack's equipment, there is a lot of flexibility in the kit with much Soviet gear being used. We also have found a kick-ass source for German tunics that are excellent reproductions but are at the same time very affordable.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me. We are based in the MD-DC-VA-PA area and will be going to Newville (hopefully) in February of 2008 with our 1910 Maksim machinegun (complete with Tsarist side-plate). Women are welcome as well!
