1939-40 Heer Unit
«
on:

IR104, the only German Heer unit in the U.S. that ONLY does a 1939-40 impression, is expanding from its base in the Chicago area to begin recruiting in the
Mid-Atlantic region
(DC, VA, MD, PA, NC).
Do you live in the Mid-Atlantic area? Have you always wanted to portray a common German infantryman from the campaigns in Poland, Norway, and France? Have you had the desire to shift your focus away from blank busting, and more toward living history with period correct gear, training, and attitude? Then IR104 wants you to help us build a whole new aspect of WW2 reenacting.
For more information, check out:
http://members.aol.com/soldaten/ir104.html
or PM me through this site.
And yes, some other units out there also have members who have early war impressions. But
only
IR104 focuses
all
of its efforts exclusively on 1939-40.
Finally, if you're in the Chicago area, and want to see IR104 in action against the French and BEF, come see us at the Lyon Historical Farm & Village in Yorkville, IL June 9-10. Also present will be an encampment of 1939 Polish infantry.

Sorry man, you guys are not the only unit that does Early War. We are based in NJ and that is allw e do. Everyone MUST have the the 36 tunic, gas sheet pouch, jackboots, ect. We train at every event- rifle drill, formations, marching, weapons cleaning, ect.

My apologies. I'm aware of a number of units out there that can do early war in a pinch, but otherwise focus on later war. However, after considerable research, I was not aware of any other units that also
only
had early war impressions. Does your unit have a website? What events do you participate in?
As demonstrated by the extraordinarily limited response to my initial note, the appeal of early war is apparently pretty limited among the reenacting world at large. From conversations with others, the impression I get is that this is primarily due to the limited number of early war events compared to later war events. If there are others with the same emphasis and goals, however, it hopefully makes it more possible for early war to gain some traction.

Peter
Mike's unit has a website so you can check it out. Do know the Brits are thinking of getting more 1940 kits together so it might just take time.

I'm aware of a few British units that can do early war (although, again, they mainly focus on late war):
7th Battalion, Black Watch out of New England (
http://home.stny.rr.com/the7thblackwatch/
)
The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders out of North Carolina (
http://www.eldonspecialties.com/df/camerons/index.htm
)
Ox. & Bucks. Light Infantry out of Texas (
http://www.io.com/%7etog/index.html
)
Queen's Royal Rifles out of Virginia (may be officially defunct, I occasionally see these guys)
There are also a few French and even 1939 Polish units out there (PM me if you want contacts) for those interested in setting up early war events.

LOL, right now my earliest I can go is summer 1941 in the southern Ukraine. Just got to change puttees' to gaiters'. Of course I could just throw on my doughboy uniform and go British I guess.

This is a pretty old thread, and I'm getting the red warning that I might want to consider starting a new topic, but I'm feeling ornery so I'm just going to add to this one.
As exciting as it has been receiving the flood of responses about my Heer unit that only does 1940 (Marsh, is there a way we can import the sound of crickets chirping in the background here?), it was interesting to look back at this post all this time later to see that there was interest in 1940 British as well. Since this original post, there are about a half dozen guys in and around northern Virginia who are giving 1940 BEF a real shot. We've attended one event already, and are actively preparing for at least 3 more in the near to mid-term future. It's an even more challenging impression to get right than 1940 Heer is, but it is just as satisfying.
I still am actively participating with IR104, and we are always looking for people who really want to explore early war. At the same time, if you are hyper anal retentive, in good physical condition (we MARCH!), live in the northern VA/DC area, and want to explore 1940 BEF with guys who really want to do this rare impression, shoot me a PM.

Almost have everything for a 1940 Polizei impression (the one's administered by the SS).

Excellent! When will I get to see that? Of course, the related question is when will any of us get a chance to do 1940?
