Thank to my old comrade Marsh Wise, we now have a central place to talk about RF! There is much going on right now, trying to plan two conventions at once (Gettysburg in Nov. and Chicago in Feb.) and things are VERY exciting! New ideas about things to do at the convention are rolling in all the time and I plan to discuss them here. We are ALWAYS looking for more volunteers and people to help promote the convention, and we can talk about that here too. The best part of this forum will be as a vehicle to reminice about Reenactor Fests gone by with folks that were there! I think Pete the Pirate should have his own thread, eh? ANYWAY... thanks for stopping by and I look forward to talking RF with you guys!!

Hey Mike,
I'm looking forward to attending Reenactorfest Gettysburg this fall. My question is: what are the rules going to be concerning firearms and edged weapons? Can they be carried at all times? Only at certain times? Only in certain places? And how has that worked at Reenactorfest Chicago, where I know the rules are generally a lot more strict than in Pennsylvania?

Good question Peter! All reenactors know that your personal weaponry can make your impression, and therefore most like to carry their stuff at all times. The policy at the convention (all locations) is this: be smart or you have to go home. People can have a sword as long as it remains in it's sheath. NO SWORDPLAY EVER! For people with muskets, they can carry them but no black powder is allowed in the building. For modern impressions, dummy versions of guns (like the MP40) are allowed but no REAL firearms can be carried. Not even bolt action rifles. The only exception to this rule is if you are using it in a live demo, and in that case it must be kept in your car or hotel room when you aren't performing.
We try and keep it simple and smart!

Well isn't this fun? I know I am very much looking forward to the next convention. We're what - 5 months or so away. :o It's going to come up quick. Mike - any word on the group/bus tour of Gettysburg?
Best,
Becky

Hi Everyone!
Great idea Mike for posting here and brainstorming.
...And if I may, Mike.....
Becky, to answer your question, due to the lack of response along with the low number of seats sold by June 2nd, the Magical History Tour Bus for midwest reenactors going to Gettysburg, PA for Reenactor Fest III has been cancelled.

Thank you Darlings! If you mean the bus tour of the battlefield, I called and they said it will be $20 a piece for a 2 hour tour, and the bus seats about 45 people. The problem is finding out if we have 40 interested parties! The bus would pick us up at the hotel, give the tour, and drop everybody off at the hotel. I think I should make this it's own topic and then see what kind of feedback we get!

Avete!
Good question on the weapons policy, that's very important information that folks will be looking for. Can it be added to the main site, either on the front page or at least the FAQ?
Thanks!
Matthew

Yes, I should (and WILL) add the weapons policy to the FAQ!
Cheers - Mike
