This past February in Chicago we debuted the Reenactor's Ball to WILD applause. It was absolutely the highlight of the convention, and something folks are still talking about. This album has a lot of great shots from the ball:

We will be doing the ball in Gettysburg too of course, but due to ballroom availability we have to do it Friday night. Make sure you can either take Friday off, call in sick, or just disappear early so you can be ready to dance at 8:00! The recipie is the same... 2 or 3 hours of historical dancing from all time periods, and then 2 or 3 hours of HYSTERICAL dancing! It is NOT TO BE MISSED!

Saturday night will be a more laid back kind of party.  We have an area off the dealer ballroom with table rounds, a cash bar, and we will have live entertainment featuring the Battlefield Balladeers!  They will perform live for us most of the night, but we will make breaks available where YOU can play!  The only caveat is... please have the talent!  :-)  It can be anything you like... bagpipes, banjo, Medieval acapella, whatever.  The Balladeers are the host band and if they say it's okay then God Bless you.. GET UP THERE AND GO! It should be a lot of fun, and allow some of the musical talent in our hobby to shine!  All I ask is for an email before hand saying "Mike, can I play a song on Saturday night?"  I am a planner and I need to plan!!

I can't wait for the ball Friday night!  I had a blast in Chicago.  I am not much of a dancer, but I still had fun.  I did just watch the period dances - to save the toes of the people around me, but it was still interesting to watch.    Wink  We have some talented and graceful people in this hobby.   Too bad I am not one of them!

I also really like the idea of the "open mic" night for Saturday night.  Good idea, Mike.

What about a historic/folk music jam for people musically inclined, but who can't dance?

    Charles -

That is precisely what we have planned for Saturday night!!  We have a Civil War band as the "house band" to make sure things keep rolling, and music is always playing. Then, if talented folks want to play a song onthe harp, bagpipes, acapella... whatever - they are welcome to!

I hope to see MacGregor Games back in Chicago in February!!

We're planning on being there, I've also been talking up among some of the Renaissance Fair crowd who are more interested in the historical than the hysterical

Fantastic!  That's the beauty of the Grand Ball... there is something for everyone!  The dance callers are all very serious historians and they make it possible for guys like me to be involved with NO prior experience.

Side note: this coming weekend is my first Rev War event (Cantigny) and I'll be there with MacGregor Games cards, dice and instruction booklets in my haversack!!
