Depends what it's for... hmmm, I guess a Gew 98b. I like bolt actions. My fav gun is an Ak-47, but since that's not here and a Stg.44 is a bit much... I'll stay w/ a Gewehr.

For me it has to be the MG42, just somthing about the way they sound. And the fact that the GI's were so scared of them that the Army had to do a training film specifically about it, trying to convince them that it was not big deal!
1300 RPM is more than no big deal!

I have to agree with this. (even with the Ak-47 comment)
I have carried an Mg-34, Zb-26, Mp-40 and the Mauser. I carry the Mauser because I like it more than the cool factor of the other weapons.

The VG-1. It's just a POS that you have to love... it has the outward look of a pseudo-assault rifle, but the venerable action of a Mauser. Stamped-metal, last-ditch, the-end-is-inevitable kind of thing. Almost as cool as the horses towing the fuel cart for the jet fighters

Had a K43 once. despite it being a little on the quirky side, it was fun.

Mauser 98k. I would have to say the BNZ 43 Steyr my grandfather gave me when I was 12(Best birthday present I ever got). Original stock, cupped buttplate model. Its the laminated pressed wood model. Bore is immaculate. Shoots great, as accurate as my friends remington 700 and way more accurate then my m48 or my m63. I don't know if this rifle was used much if at all. Its a G.I. trophy so none of those nasty Russian serial numbers or their horrible stock refinishing.

Well, I'd love to have an FG 42, but short of someone giving me one it'l never happen!!!
I started out at my first Battle in 81 with a G 43 that I had a friend blank adapt for me. About a year later I had a BFA made for my MP 40 and started carrying that. In those days there was a lot of problems with 9mm blanks. I currently carry an MP 43 u. M35. I've had the MP 43 since about 1985. Used to carry a P.38 till I got the Browning.
On the Very Rare occasions that I do GI for some reason - usualy at Vets Day parades or some such - I carry either a Thompson or a BAR. Did the BAR bit last Nov and let another guy carry the Thompson. Looks real impressive when you have an 8 or 10 man squad correctly deployed as if walking down a road (well guess we were, but) with all the correkt weapons. In this case we were followed by an M3 half track.
