News: We are happy to announce that we have our new "link mod" working—our programmer out-did himself on making it!! The program allows YOU to add your link yourself, unlike the old "add-me form" we had. Please, go to http://www.reenactor.net/forums/index.php/page,167.html and add your unit's link, if we don't have it. For that matter, you can update links too. We still have many of the old links up, as it is a process to do a lot of them. However, we will be working to update links as fast as possible-- soon, ALL the unit links and historical links will be done this way!!

I attended RF2 in Chicago.  I attend ren faires, and I've been to a number of civil war events as a spectator, but I had never seen WWII reenactors, so there was a lot to see and learn!

Like everyone, I had a great time dancing (badly but enthusiastically) at the ball.  The best thing to come of the event for me was the further participation it spawned - I went to my first WWII event a few months later and have another planned.  And I sat in on a rev war reenactment for my first-ever living history event as a participant!  (I think of ren faires as being in a bit different category, especially just attending as a visitor/shopper.)

I loved RF2 and continue to remember it fondly, 6 months later.  I will be sure to attend the next Chicago fest.  I hope that everyone going to the new Gettysburg event has a wonderful time.

The Ball WAS great, and the funny thing is that half of it happened completely by accident!  The original plan (which was still on track as the music began that night) was for 4 hours of historical music only.  We had dance experts "calling" the Medieval and Civil War dances so that novices like me could join in.  At one point, my buddy Scott Bellis turned to me and said "wouldn't it be hysterical if we could get the DJ to play the Time Warp at the end of the night!"

I went up and asked the DJ if he had it with him,  and he did!  So... the plan evolved and we decided to play it at the end of 3 hours of historical music, and let it be a surprise. We had no idea what the reaction would be, but with all those time periods out there dancing, we felt that people would appreciate the joke. Once the song came on, everybody went CRAZY and packed the dance floor!  The DJ came running over to me and said "do I keep going with this?" and I said HELL YES!!!  :-)

The Time Warp was followed by "SHOUT!" and all kinds of other great dance music. The hotel staff jammed the doorways so they could see this most amazing sight... Emperor Nero doing the YMCA with General Grant. It was the most fun I have ever had, and it is now a fixture of the Fest in both Gettysburg and Chicago!

How about the Sheraton closing the bar early but forgetting to turn off the beer taps!!!  If Ed hadn't started singing, security would never have known we were there!!  laugh

Hmm...HEARD about that one, Mike.  Sorry that we missed out on it.  I decided to hang with the Romans! A really fun lot.  Nothing like having a hotel room full of them, though I don't recommend it!  Grin - but that is another story.

But how about this....What about the group of teenage girls ('Tweeners') who invaded the ball on Saturday night?

They were alll dressed up in an assortment of Sheraton items (including the laundry/dry cleaning bags) with their hair styled high; mimicking Ed Foxe’s Thrum cap.  I guess it was their attempt to have the past meet up with the future!

Here is the shot of Ed Foxe with 'the girls'

This is the first I have heard of the teenage ball crashers!  I admire their spunk!  Perhaps the lovely ladies the saw that night will drive them to get involved in the hobby???

It's 2 am on Sunday Morning and our crew is ready to turn in (through we really didn't want to...having WAY TOO MUCH FUN).

We stagger out to the main hall and as we are saying bye to each other, we realize we are missing a crew member.  The search was on....the Captain sent up the alarm and we started to search of our crew member...

20 mins. later we found him...under a hallway credenza near the vendor hall fast asleep.  Way to go Rats!

One I would certainly like to hear considering we shared the room with you and the only Roman, one, came for a few minutes to get his nose "broken"...

Okay, guys.  Just read through the reenactorfest stories.... now I'm extremely geeked about the one in Chicago!!!! laugh  I'm now kindof regretting going to St. Augustine instead of the Gettysburg Reenactorfest.....but Disneyworld is calling my name....I can't resist the call of the sirens...and who can resist Fla. in Dec., a reenactment with a citadel, a haunted lighthouse, and a side trip to Disneyworld Grin  I hope to meet alot of you guys in Chicago Kiss

I guess the story I can think of was on Saturday night.  I was decked to the nines in my high court late 1880s ball gown.  One of the lady's from Autumn Tree Productions was asking lots of questions about the construction of the gown and what it was like to wear a bustle.

Well, being that I'm a "good sport" (so I've been told) I quickly dashed away with her to my hotel room with several other gals from the company in tow...and we quickly exchanged attire for the evening...she got to wear a 1880s bustle gown...I ended up in her Medieval kit!

I know we shocked her hubby-to-be...let alone everyone one-else when we reappeared at the gathering Saturday night.  It made her night!

Miss Lilly, I think I saw those dresses you speak of on your photo dumping-a-ma-bob (someone posted it on the Wehrmacht list). VERY nice threads!

Man, I'm feeling a pull to get at least one cool 18th century suit together.... ahh, one of these days, after a new Fliegerbluse, a new Russian M43, imperial M1910 Bluse, the list goes on! I have a feeling that I might catch another time period bug at the Fest in Chicago  Cool
