OK , I have heard some cilivan women talking about carrying ladies hand guns for " portection " against the "enemy" . does anyone know if 1) would Civil War ladies carry these guns ? 2) know of any reenactors who do ? 3) if they carry do they take part in battles ?

This is an interesting question.  I cannot remember any civilians (ladies) ever carrying handguns at any of the events I've attended, but of course, in history you can never say, never.

Let me see if I can contact some of my old Civil War chums and see what insight they have on this question.

There are a few 'Ladies' that do portray spies of the Union/Confederate.  Perhaps this would be a venue that you could portray?

I guess a spy would but you don't have many at reenactments. I always thought that if you wanted to carry a gun , why not be a solider? I'm happy being a non gun carrying cilivan Wink

Sorry about the delys between answers.  My computer is so slow and my screen keeps 'fading'.

Don't give up hope, just yet.  A while ago, I remember seeing something a Civil War magazine about two women having a duel with pistols.  This matter could have been over politics, men or what ever...I'll have to see if I can find the details about it.
