Reenactorfest Gettysburg AAR

Well, it's all over, and I had a BLAST!
I went out on Friday morning with my wife and 2 year old daughter. First of all, let me say that the choice of vendors in the main room was fantastic. Not a dud among them. Second, it was fantastic to see such a wide variety of impressions and time periods among the reenactors. I saw some really interesting and obscure impressions; many that you simply don't see at your average reenactment. I noticed Bronze Age, Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, Napoleonic, American Civil War, pre-WW1, WW1, WW2, and Vietnam War (my apologies to any I missed).
In addition to a number of great seminars and demonstrations, a few units also put on some impressive displays of equipment, including a huge Roman display, an impressive display of original WW1 German gear put on by IR459, and a massive display of heavy weapons, equipment, and uniforms by 12. Komp. 2nd SS (full disclosure: this was my old unit, and great friends of mine).
Of course, as at any convention, the real fun started after hours. Friday night was the ball, with dance lessons for various periods and culminating in the traditional "Time Warp." Saturday night was live music night, with songs played by some remarkably talented musicians from various periods. Most notable was the bagpiper, who really got the party going.
I'm hoping we get to see this event again in the east. In the meantime, I hope I can get out to Chicago for what I understand is the premier Reenactorfest.
