I would like to extend an invitation to you attend our Civil War encampment in August of 2008. The event information is listed below. Our historic village is a restored mid-nineteenth century mining village in the heart of the anthracite coal fields of northeast Pennsylvania. We have 58 restored miner’s homes, two 1860s churches, doctors’ office, company store, and three owner’s mansions spread out over 100 acres including two large fields for drilling, camping, and recreating a tactical battle scenario. Our plan for the battle scenario will include a fight in the woods and fields around the town and then a fight right down main street trough the center of the village. Our event is growing every year. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Your humble servant,
    Bill Strassner

    Eckley Miners’ Village
    CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT
    August 16 & 17, 2008

Artillery, cavalry, & infantry units will be conducting drilling, firing, and military camp life demonstrations along with a tactical skirmish between federal and confederate forces.

Civilians will be setting up camps portraying camp followers, Sanitary & Christian Commission members, political & historical figures from the era. Entertainment will include period music & dancing Saturday evening as well as a town ball game of north verses south. Sunday will include a period interdenominational church service in the camp, with a lemonade social and period music following the service.

Other activities include period sewing workshops, period demonstrators, & lots of good food. There will be a number of sutlers on site who will be selling reproduction military and civilian clothing and personal items from the era, as well as period journeymen who will demonstrate their nineteenth century skills such as chair caning, paper making, old time medicine, quilting, cooking, & more…

We will provide the following amenities: firewood, water, ice, hay, and straw, clean restrooms, VIP parking area, stipend for powder, and bounty for cavalry and Confederate units. Bounty for the first six artillery units to register.
