Reenacting the Middle Ages and Renaissance

  • Hurstwic http://www.valhs.org/ (USA, New England) -- 900 - 1066 Their aim is to study and accurately re-create the life of the people living in northern Europe during the Viking Age They are the first local group of Geforðian Strand, the North American branch of Regia Anglorum.

Dark Ages/Early Medieval

  • Miklagard Garrison of New Varangian Guard http://www.physics.mq.edu.au/~gnott/Miklagard/Miklagard.html (Sydney, NSW, Australia) -- 969-1015 Byzantium, Kievan Rus. Steel combat demos, crafts. Details mailed in from Peter Raftos: Our garisson concentrates on the interaction between Byzantium and the Kievan Rus' in the period 969-1015AD. This period of two generations covers the triumphant reigns of the General Emperors John I Tzcimisces and Basil II Bulgaroctonos (Bulgar-Slayer). In Rus' it is the long reign of Prince Vladimir the Great, who ruled all Rus' from his seat in Kiev, and although a devoted pagan, converted his people to Orthodox Christianity. It is the time when the destinies of these two great realms collided.
    • 1066 - 1086, The Battle of Hastings to the Domesday Book
    • 1135 - 1154, The anarchy of King Stephen's reign - Battle of Lincoln - Battle of the Standard
    • 1199 - 1215, The Barons war - Richard CDL - King John's signing of the Magna Carta
    • Focus on entertaining and educating the public about history. In addition to the above list, they also do an Anglo-Norman camp demo, archery, various crafts. Lots of history lessons on their page.

13th to 15th centuries 

    •  Marca Brandenburgensis anno domini 1260 http://www.brandenburg1260.de (Berlin, Germany) -- 1240 - 1270 - Living history group portraying everyday life in the 13th century in the Berlin-Brandenburg area (Marca brandenburgensis) under the reign of the Askanian Markgrafen Johann I and Otto III. Mostly in German, some English. Articles in German, photos under 'Galerie'.
  • La Belle Compagnie http://www.labelle.org/ (USA, Maryland) -- 1337 - 1453 - Hundred Years War, English. Living history portrayal of a knight's military company and civilian household, concentrating on the year 1382.
