Grand Militia Muster
« on: August 09, 2007, 08:49:31 AM »
Hello, everyone.  The St. Maries Citty Militia invites all 17th century reenactors and living history participants to the Grand Militia Muster in Historic St. Mary's City, Maryland October 5 through 7, 2007.  Events include competition in musketry, pistol, crossbow, fencing, ensign flourishing, camping, open hearth cooking, work dress and formal dress.  A Grand Ball in the reconstructed statehouse of 1676 on Saturday evening is the highlight of the event.  St. Mary's City is the Ancient and Chief Seat of Government of the Lord Baltemore's proprietarie colony of Mary-Land, founded 1634.  Campsite comprises the grounds of the 1676 statehouse.
Contact me, Ernest Willoughby, musketeer, for details.

Ooo!  Sounds great!

I've heard some great things about this place.  St. Maries City had their Heritage Festival in June earlier this year and several members of the Pirate Brethren Reenactment group were there.

The area has some lovely late 1600s buildings. Perhaps a ship? It really is close to perfect!

Yes, Historic St. Mary's City has a ship, The Maryland Dove, a reconstruction of one of the two ships, The Ark and The Dove that brought the first settlers to Maryland in March, 1634.  The Maryland Dove is a small supply ship, a pinnace.  Seventeenth century portrayals of sailors and mariners are welcome to the Grand Militia Muster.  Some of our St. Maries Citty Militia members do portray sailors, and muster in the ranks with pike or musket.  EJW
