                            "Belen to Host National Tomakawk and Knife Throwing Championship"                                                                                                                                                                                           Belen , New Mexico  September 6th and 7th , 2008 : The Southwestern National Tomahawk and Knife Championship (S W N T K C) will be held on September 6th and 7th at the Willie M. Chavez Park at East River Road in Belen . The Competition starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday and continues at 9:00 Am on Sunday . Competitors from across the United States will  be competing for cash and prizes in this exciting event , replicating similar events held in the days of Kit Carson and Jim Bridger.                                                                                                                                                            Competitors will be divided into Professionan men and women , Amateur adults , Junior (ages 9 - 14 ) and youth (ages 8 and under throwers . Competitors must be in pre- 1840 atire and use primitive tomahawks and knives . Anyone may enter whichever division best describes their talent and age range . Entry fees vary according to the division entered . There is no admission fee and the public is encouraged to come and enjoy the competition....                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        This event harks back to the days when the moutain men , traders , trappers and natives would gather to trade .
