French Unit Markings - Napoleonic Wars

(1/1)

Bob Smalser:
I recently conserved a ca1810 AN XIII pistol made in Liege and am trying to decipher the unit markings burned into the offside lock panel.  They are
"2.' 2 E".    Can anyone help?

These were made as cavalry and dragoon pistols, but were common in other units as well, including naval units.  300,000 were manufactured at the Royal Armories of St. Etienne, Maubeuge, and Charleville between 1806 and 1814, and were in service well into the 1840's.

The "before" picture.  ;)

Thanks
