Iron Cross Second Class:
For conducting a successful trench-raid and single handedly
 causing massive enemy casualties without being detected.

Verwundeten-Abzeichen 3e Klasse for one wound:
In a daylight storm on Root Hog Hill in 1979, Benedict, as a member of the assaulting wave smashed into a fully manned frontline of French and Americans.  In a melee of hand-to-hand combat, his right palm was sliced diagnally by a bayonet or knife.  Only after the position was secured did a prisoner call his attention to the wound.  He remarked of the dramatic effect of the blood splashing on Benedicts boot toe.

Verwundeten-Abzeichen 3e Klasse for one wound: November 9 1917

While fending off an attack on IR 120s position in 2005, Musketier Rentschler was temporarily blinded in the left eye when a British Mills Bomb exploded in his face.  The ambulance was called to take him to a medical tent where the splinters were removed.  Do to the poor quality of the enemy weapon it failed to kill the Musketier.
