Virtual Meeting Place for Reenactors, anybody interested?
« on: June 25, 2008, 09:52:07 AM »
Hi,

great site. I'm just new here.

The forums are huge ...*-)

But what about web 2.0 and interactivity and all this?

I wonder if other reenactors like me would be interested in an additional / complimentary community platform, that had not only forums, but also features like
# Private Messaging
# File Sharing
# Member Webpages / Blogs
# Photo Gallery
# Reviews
# Task Manager
# Teleconferencing
# Video / MP3 Gallery
# Web Audio Chat
# Web Video Chat

And if so, would anybody be willing to pay for all this technical "Schnickschnack" allowing to do virtual meetups etc. (monthly or yearly fee of  ...?)?

I'm reallyl ycurious what you think ...

Regards,

HTG

PS.: I choose to not do a poll for this ...

First, obviously you don't know reenactors... most of us are either poor or cheap. You pick. Reenactors will eat Ramen for 3 weeks just to get that new helmet or piece of kit. However, they RARELY will pay for stuff like this. Hell, some of the older eras like F&I would fall down and DIE if you asked them to PAY for an event -- do you think they're gonna cough up for a reenactor social site? Really? Do you?

Second, who are you? Kinda secret huh? There is a real apathy in the hobby these days. I don't know why, but remember, there's myspace and facebook, both of which have a LOT of what you're talking about and... Skirmish just started their "Ning" Living History area, so you'd be behind the 8 Ball.
My 2 cents...  yoy

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

Sorry to hear about them poor or cheap reenactors.

I'm pretty new to reenacting in general and don't know one of these poor reenactors you mentioned. In fact the people i got to know so far all seem to spend a lot on reeanacting and so i assume they are not poor. But who knows, perhaps they deep in debth ...

I was just looking around and thinking perhaps a reenactor social site with lots of reeenacting multimedia and interaction tools would be a good thing.

Didn't know about skirmish at Ning.

Thanks for pointing me to it ...*-)

I read it, it made me think of work (Task Manager
# Teleconferencing) along with some kid stuff that I don't understand (Mp3, web audio chat, web video chat)  hell, I still think spell check is the cats ass, you are speaking another language to me.

Besides, everyone wants to use the horrible Yahoo list instead of this place.  If we could get people to come here it might be a better idea.

Apathy, I was apathetic once, then I just thought it wasn't worth it..............
