January 4th, 2008

Dear friend of history,

This July 4th marks the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. For the last nine years, Ringwood Manor has marked the event with a reenactment and celebration featuring a reading of the document as well as militia musters and activities for the public. On behalf of Ringwood Manor and Ringwood State Park, I would like to invite your group to participate in this year?s festivities.

Without the help of dedicated reenactors, this event would not be as wonderful as it is. Anyone who would like to participate in an activity or demonstration not listed should feel free to contact me with their suggestions. And, as always, anyone who is looking to volunteer that day but does not want to take part specifically in the reenactment is welcome. A tentative schedule of events for this year?s reading is attached on the following page. We not only need reenactors but also volunteers to help with the colonial games, suttlers, people to distribute free watermelon to the public and help set-up for the event. The event is very well publicized and attendance each year continues to grow. Last year we had an estimated crowd of 400 people and both newspaper and local television covered the event. All participants will be listed in the program, so this is a great way to get free publicity and meet new people! We will again be providing lunch, snacks, and drinks to all reenactors and volunteers as a thank you for their participation.

In order to have the event run smoothly, I would like to know how many volunteers and reenactors are planning on participating ahead of time. I am requesting that those people who wish to participate please contact me as soon as possible with their name(s) and how they would like to contribute to the event. If anyone has questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope you are able to lend your enthusiasm and knowledge to the public for this very special day. Please also feel free to forward this message to individuals in your group and other people you know that may be interested in participating.

Thanks so much for your help and consideration!
Sincerely,
Sue Shutte
