Title: 2008 Election
Post by: Rockman on November 03, 2008, 12:05:29 PM
Well folks, the political Fol-De-Rol is almost over.  I, for one, will be delighted to not be receiving the damned robo-calls for a while! --Maddening things! At this point, it looks like a horse race.  I just hope that things cook out good for us, as reenactors. -Keep your fingers crossed, hm?

UPDATE: At this point it seems the deed is done.  Not only has there been a change of drivers, it has been decided to burn the bus, too. >:D

Well we fall into that category whose partiotic duty is to pay more in taxes to help redistribute the wealth so others can have a piece of the pie. Granted that I paid my way through college plus worked FT and PT, my wife has some student loans left but received a Ph.D., works 55-65 hours a week plus some weekends, live in one of the most expensive places, have a baby and already pay 30% in Federal taxes on top of NY state and NYC taxes. We worked hard to get to where we are at but now where is the incentive to go out and make more money if you are going to take it from me?

There is NO incentive if they're just going to take it. I find the threat of "executive Orders" even more chilling. :O>@

Well fellows I am part of the Pennsy-Kentuck world here in Pennsylvania. Only Pittsburgh and Philly matter. They are the elite of PA. I am a gun toting ,bible thumping uniform and jeep owning nut. I about fell over election night when this was said on ABC.
I will have to watch what will happen and fight for my rights if they don't take them away. I'm a poor hospital orderly but others feel I could be rich. You are right what you all are saying. Get ready for the fun--

Think they will be brown shirts? Maybe red, white and blue just to have some sense of patriotism. Cabinet picks are interesting though!

This was debunked by factcheck.org back in November.

"Obama was not talking about a "security force" with guns or police powers. He was talking specifically about expanding AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps and the USA Freedom Corps, which is the volunteer initiative launched by the Bush administration after the attacks of 9/11,"

Look at the source of the website: Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania
Hate to tell you this but the Ivy League schools are not in the middle or to the right but to the left in practice. Wouldn't take it for what it is worth. In fact, most schools in this country have left views (faculty/administration) and if you speak out not a good thing. Know a couple of professors there at UPenn and they do not speak against the left or they would be marked. They are from Eastern Europe and if anyone knows what the left can be like they do but they value their positions so stay quiet. Of course the right is going to take the opposite extreme as well. It comes down to what the Founding Fathers believed when they set up the Electorial College: The average citizen will not care enough, follow politics enough or be smart enough to make a proper, educated decision but follow what is being told to them. Sadly, the Electorial College has left what it was set up for: correcting the average voter.

Perhaps, but if you look at the adverts and rumors they examined during the campaign I found them to be pretty even handed.

Well lads, inauguration day isn't too far off from now.... it'd be my guess that we won't have a long wait to see how they intend to screw with things.  Judging by the regular media, the obsessive adoration with their messiah is on going.  --You'd think that the sun never shone before election day!! Nauseating, that! Just hold on tight, and don't be too surpised at developing events.  I still think that we're in for an uncomfortable ride.

Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu. At the time of his birth, he held dual citizenship in the U.S. (by virtue of being born in Hawaii) and was a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies (or the UKC) by virtue of being born to a father who was a citizen of the UKC. He lost his Kenyan citizenship automatically on his 21st birthday.

Kenya recognizes dual citizenship for children, but specifies that at age 21, Kenyan citizens who possesses citizenship in more than one country automatically lose their Kenyan citizenship unless they formally renounce any non-Kenyan citizenship and swear an oath of allegiance to Kenya.

Part of the hoopla over seems to have started with an mistake made in an article in Rocky Mountain News August 6, 2008 which claimed he still had duel citizenship. The paper's editor, John Temple, formally apologized for the error on Aug. 15, 2007 ( http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/aug/15/eight-word-gaffe-ripples-across-web/ )

More info see: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/does_barack_obama_have_kenyan_citizenship.html

So what it really comes down to is a question of whether someone who had duel citizenship as a child is or is not a "natural born citizen" as required by the Constitution to be president

"At least one lawsuit conceded that he (Obama) was a citizen by virtue of birth in Hawaii, but argued that he was nevertheless not a natural-born citizen because of his entitlement to dual citizenship (through his father) at birth. As of December 26, 2008 no court has agreed with these challenges; some (but not all) of the cases have been dismissed because of the plaintiff's lack of standing."
-from Wikipedia on "Natural born citizenship" Heck according to that even John McCain's eligibility was questioned since he was born in at the Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone.

As a gun owner and stock holder I am questioning everything our new president is doing. Ban machine guns? They have been banned since what the 1930's. Does this mean all class 3 owned weapons wil have to be handed in? Also AP rounds every gun catalog that sell ammo sell AP rounds. Many pistols use this ammo, humm.
As for stock market. My jeep is a better investment so maybe I'll restore another militray vehicle.

For what it is worth--  Pat

As an investor I am worried. I have seen the portfolio drop 60% but most of this as soon as Obama became president. I hope he see's that everytime he opens his mouth the market falls. The Treasury Secretary is a joke since he helped mastermind the initial bailout and also along his career forgot to pay some taxes. However it seems that is the case with Obama's selections: tax evaders. Makes me think his judgement skills are below average (especially with his past connections).

With a free-market economy the best solutions was to let the companies that are strong enough to survive do so while those who were weak fade into history. The US automobile industry relied too much on gas guzzlers (but of course for many years that is all the US consumer purchased). Government intervention only pro-longs the agony as we will see.

Obama is dangerous it seems for gunowners. To plan to charge a lot of taxes on guns and ammo is ridiculous. How many people can actually afford antique class III weapons is small so what is the real danger? I understand in the cities but would you really see people walking around with rifles and MG's? No! My father who hasn't bought a gun in 15 years is buying them now thanks to Obama becoming president. Hopefully 2010 sees a better election result for Congress and Pelosi booted out along with Reid, Dodd and Frank.
