Title: The hand salute when was the change
Post by: battlebaby4 on July 09, 2008, 07:45:32 PM
Here is a question for everyone, especially any reenactors of US Militray Forces. In the Civil War the hand salute was palm out. Today is the modern salute. When did it change? I know in WW 1 it was the modern today way so I have it to 1917. Did it change after the end of the Civil WAR.
A question that has been bothering me. Help me sleep tonight!!!

It was changed during the late 1860s- Upton's Drill 1867 Drill Manual is the first official reference.
