"Are you a history buff? Do you love to play dress up? If so then volunteering at Fort Defiance might just be for you. We’re looking for volunteers to help us keep history alive at this very unique historic site. Even if you don’t want to give tours we need volunteers for all kinds of occurrences. From giving tours to preservation and everything in between, there is lots of opportunity to do most anything. It is within a couple hours of Fort Loudon, Fort Watauga, Cowpens, Hickory Ridge Homestead, Kings Mountain, Bethabara, and Guilford Courthouse among others.

"Attention volunteers: Need help next week at fort. Our only staff person is down with bronchial pneumonia. Per doctors orders she is confined to bed rest for the next several days. If you have a few hours to help out with mowing, tours or other grounds work would be much appreciated." Posted 5/24/15

Sadly Ft Defiance's Director, "Becky", lost her battle with cancer.   You could not have asked to meet a sweeter lady and better site director.  She will be sorely missed.

COVID costs Fort Defiance almost all of their volunteers but the new Director found something very interesting; in 1776 Captain William Lenoir was tasked with creating a patriot ranger unit so Lenoir's Rangers are looking for members.
